Plot Outline:
A secret bomber, "Viking" plants a series of incredibly elaborate multi-trigger bombs aboard an oceanliner and demands a ransom of $6 million. The captain of the oceanliner is killed when he investigates the first bomb threat on board the ship. MacGyver and his married friend Charlie Robinson, his partner in the Vietnam War, are summoned and dropped onto the oceanliner via helicopter to defuse the bombs. The helicopter cannot land, so MacGyver and Charlie must be lowered down to the deck. They lose their equipment during the drop and MacGyver is forced to rig up defusing tools. Charlie takes the first shot at disarming the bomb, but inadvertently breaks the vacuum seal, letting air into the bomb, detonating the phosphorous and triggering the heat sensor. Exit Charlie and part of the ship. Carole Tanner, the first officer and acting captain, takes his place and the two work on the remaining two bombs. Meanwhile, Pete tries to track Viking but the terrorist manages to steal the ransom money. By the way the triggers are set up on the bomb, MacGyver figures out the culprit and notifies Pete with only minutes remaining and disables the bomb. However, the bomb is reactivated- with the timer set for 60 seconds. MacGyver is left with two knobs under the bomb- and only one will disable it. To make matters worse, MacGyver must rely on Viking to tell him which knob to pull. 1100 people are at stake, and MacGyver, depending on which knob he chooses, as well as his psychoanalysis on the suspect, will either save them or seal their fate...
