Original Air Date: 10/31/1988 on ABC

Director: Mike Vejar

Guest Stars: Ray Young (Virgil), Arlen Dean Snyder (Sheriff Howels)

Plot Outline:

MacGyver accompanies his friend Penny Parker to an old house she has inherited from a distant relative (her Aunt Betty) who mysteriously died thirty years before. Penny has the notion that the house is haunted, due to the talk that has been circulated about the house in the town. MacGyver has a tough time convincing Penny that "there are no such things as ghosts" as a result. However, Penny remains unconvinced at MacGyver's logic to the strange sounds that the old house has. The first night they are there, a lightning storm hits the gazebo, knocking out the power. MacGyver rushes outside with Penny in pursuit to find out what exactly happened. When Penny finds a human skull, she becomes convinced that evil powers are at work in the house. Soon Penny starts to feel watched, and MacGyver´s explanations for the sounds in the house seem feeble in contrast to the skull. Nonetheless, MacGyver, determined to solve the mystery of Aunt Betty's disapperance, creates a plaster model of what Betty would have looked like- exactly like Penny. Meanwhile, Penny has gone upstairs unaware that her coffee had been drugged with a hallucinogen. Disoriented, she tries on Betty's dresses and finds one that fits- strange, because the previous night looking in the closet Penny had found dresses nowhere near the size her aunt was- much too big. Still dazed by the affect of the drug, she stumples upon a ring in the windowsill- about the same time she is dragged into the cellar by a mysterious man who is "watching" her and the house. Her scream that follows brings MacGyver upstairs to investigate. He soon finds a secret panel leading to the basement and finds Penny, as well as Virgil, a powerful man who looked after the Parker house. He mistakenly had thought Betty had come home and carried Penny down by mistake. The mystery of the noises in the house is solved when they realize a moonshine machine which had been restarted was responsible. The sheriff and his assistant soon arrive and the sheriff claims Virgil is the one who killed Betty Parker. However, MacGyver concludes in contrast that Betty Parker was murdered by the sheriff, who sought to cover up the case due to scandalous behavior between him and Betty, which left Betty preganant- explaining the large dresses. The fact that Betty Parker was carrying an illegitimate child of the sheriff's would have destroyed his election campaign many years before. Therefore, MacGyver concludes correctly that Sheriff Howels pushed Betty out an upstairs window- right where Penny found the ring. Caught, the sheriff blows the boiler and traps MacGyver, Penny, Virgil, and his assistant in the cellar, leaving them to die. There is no other way out, as they all soon find out from Virgil. Can MacGyver save everybody from being burnt to a crisp is their own personal crematorium? And what will become of the sheriff, who left them for dead...?
